Polly Wheatley approaches jewelry design much the same way she did her successful fashion line - from a personal point of view. Her passion for opals was born when she received an opal ring as a gift from her now husband and she quickly fell in love with the power and depth of the stones themselves. After giving up a her career in fashion to move with her husband to Europe, she eventually moved back with her family to California where she began designing her line which bares the names of her son and daughter.

Oli & Tess designs bring a certain wearability and sensibility, both feminine and strong - created in 18K gold with bands that are slightly thicker than most, to ensure their timelessness. The designer’s signature flower, created to represent unity, appears on many of her pieces and brings a delightfully feminine yet current aspect to her pieces.

“I’ve always loved jewelry but I realized that it wasn’t worth paying hundreds of dollars for jewelry that quickly wore out. I felt that at my age, I should be wearing real jewelry that is beautifully made and will become heirlooms for my children.

I love opals and have since my boyfriend bought me a Victorian opal and diamond ring from his native Scotland. The color and depth of these stones are limitless (if they are well selected) and they can represent so many different events or emotions for people who own them.

In my case, the boyfriend who brought me the ring became my husband and father to our two children. When she was born, pink and round with dazzling, electric blue eyes, I knew immediately that I was going to create an opal ring to celebrate her. And that is how my collection was born.

WHAT WE LOVE

We have been searching for a feminine and wearable line that was both delicate but of lasting quality and we were delighted to experience such a collection from Oli & Tess. Her designs bring a current approach to opal jewelry that can easily be worn on both casual and formal occasions. When one experiences a handmade Oli & Tess piece, it becomes understandable why the collection has gained such praise from her avid followers - including us!
